I'm not going to lie I've been reading "Weird Things Customers Say In Bookstores" and I got me thinking about all the weird encounters I've had in reverse. I've truly debated about posting something like this because I, in the very core of my soul believe librarians and booksellers are amazing and I can't say I've never been ignorant about books-literature. But I've had an experience very recently that I just have to share (it happened about two months ago) We'll go all WTCSIB for this. Also This Is A True Conversation.
Customer: "Hi, I just wanted to check these out" Looks at an advertisement for 'Go Set a Watchman' on the counter while being checked out.
Customer: "Ohh "Go Set a Watchman" do you think that will be as good as everybody thinks it will be? I personally can't wait."
Librarian: "What's that?"
Customer: "You know Harper Lee's sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird?"
Librarian: "Oh I've never read "To Kill a Mockingbird"
Customer: "You haven't??"
Librarian: "You see that came out for me before required reading and I wasn't one of those kids that would read if I didn't have to. You know the kind that read on summer break. Haha.
Customer: ".... so even now, you've never wondered if it is a good book? Because it's really worth the read."
Librarian: "Well I've had some friends that tell me it's their favorite book, I just don't care to read it"
Customer: "......"
